Inspiration comes in many forms.  Since Katrina, artists in New Orleans and the Gulf South have been creating work that is reflective of what we have experienced and the optimism in our recovery.  For many, the need to "speak through creating" has propelled their own recovery by sharing their feeling and emotions in artwork.

The artists that are exhibiting here are giving back to the community.  Each artist is giving a portion of their proceeds to a non-profit of their choice.

Here you can contact the artist directly or make a "buy now" purchase.   You are encouraged to "meet the artist", email them, get to know them and the organization they support.  There is no shopping cart.  Each piece of art tells a story.  You need to know the story and the artist. The artwork has been created with this website and giving back to the community in mind.

We know that you don't often have an opportunity to get out and experience New Orleans and the the Gulf South while your volunteering.  The NOLA Marketplace is here for you once you get home and have a desire to bring a piece of New Orleans to your home.

These pieces of jewelry are the inspiration for this website.  Designed by Gerald Haessig to say "Thank You" to all who have helped with the rebuilding of New Orleans and the Gulf South.

"My art has helped me recover emotionally from Hurricane Katrina. Creating works that express heartfelt gratitude is an indescribable feeling. To all who have helped, in large and small ways, I truly say “Thank You” and “Merci."

The Merci Collection:
The Fleur De Lis, long a symbol of France, has taken on a new role since Hurricane Katrina. It is the rallying cry for rebuilding, recovery, and pride for our beloved city, New Orleans. The focal point of the designs, the fleur de lis, is placed in front of a Roman column. The Roman column symbolizes the strength of our people, stately mansions, and historic plantations. A banner reads, “Merci” – honoring our French heritage.

The Builder Collection:
Designed for those who are helping rebuild New Orleans and Gulf South. The fleur de lis is also placed in front of a column, symbolizing the corner stone of our rebuilding efforts.

Made of pure silver and range in price from $25 - $95

Gerald supports Headwaters Relief Organization, a Minnesota based organization that has been rebuilding in the 9th Ward.

 Lotus Pod Necklace by
Chris DesJardin
New Orleans

Conceived after Katrina as a symbol of Louisiana rising out of the swamp to flower again, DesJardins Jewelry Louisiana Lotus pod designs feature custom cast sterling pods set with semi-precious 'seeds".  Garnet, iolite, labradorite, carnelian, and fresh water pearl lend their color and lustre to the organic shape of Louisiana lotus pod necklaces or earrings.

In Asia, the lotus flower rising out of the swamp symbolizes the spirit's ability to bloom in any circumstance. DesJardins Louisiana

Lotus designs use the form of a North American lotus pod to portray the essence of the human spirit's ability to rise above adversity and

flower.
